Summit MedDrop - A Great Place to Get Rid of Medicines

For those of you registered to attend our Wisconsin Women's Health Policy Summit on March 15th at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, we're offering a special MedDrop as a safe, secure way to dispose of unwanted medications.   This MedDrop is being sponsored by the Medical Society of Milwaukee County and is being supported by members of the City of Milwaukee Police Department.

Leftover and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines can be found in every household in the state. Last year unintentional poisonings killed more Wisconsin residents than automobile crashes. Misuse or abuse of prescription, over-the-counter or illicit drugs are the major cause. Pain medication when misused, can be especially fatal. MedDrop disposal also reduces the amount of improperly disposed medicine that can eventually contaminate area rivers, lakes and streams as medicines collected are incinerated and disposed of in the most environmentally safe method currently available.

What you Need to Do to Dispose of Medications at the Summit:
  • Please bring your unused or expired medication and a Ziploc or other resealable bag to the MedDrop at the Summit
  • Empty contents of pill bottles into a Ziploc/storage bag at the Summit and recycle your pill bottles, either by taking them home with you, or placing in the secured container provided at the Summit. Block out personal information before recycling.
  • Leave liquids, gels or creams in their original containers and place them in a Ziploc/storage bag
  • Place sealed Ziploc/storage bags into the MedDrop secured container provided at the Summit
