Medical Society Of Milwaukee Announces “An Evening With Patrick J. Kennedy”

Medical Society and partners hope to create greater awareness of prescription opioid abuse epidemic through the words of Kennedy, who has lived through addiction, mental illness and more.

MILWAUKEE, WI (May 12, 2016) - The Medical Society of Milwaukee County (MSMC) an organization representing nearly 3,500 physicians and medical students, today announced nationally known speaker, author and former US Congressman, Patrick J. Kennedy, will headline a Monday, September 19th  evening event at the Italian Conference Center focused on raising awareness about the prescription drug abuse. 

Patrick J. Kennedy, son of the late Senator Ted Kennedy, has become one of the nation’s leading political voices on mental illness and addiction, and is co-founder of One Mind, founder of the Kennedy Forum, and author of A Common Struggle.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Honorable Patrick J. Kennedy to Milwaukee to highlight the dangers of prescription narcotic abuse and addiction,” says Kathy Schmitz, Executive Director of the Medical Society of Milwaukee County. “His key voice on these issues builds on the Medical Society of Milwaukee County’s lead initiative to promote prescription drug safety, provide educational opportunities for physicians, and support our collaborative efforts to provide resources for prevention and treatment of mental health and addiction.”

Partner non-profits and agencies are also invited to display information booths as part of the event to provide needed resources for drug abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services.
