This webinar is free of cost and open to MSMC Members and the public, but registration is required.

Speaker: Joyce Mallory, Community Engagement Manager - Heroes for Healthcare

The webinar will describe how an innovative and award-winning program, the Military Medics and Corpsmen (MMAC) Program is changing the way healthcare hires veterans in Virginia. The MMAC Program offers clinical, leadership and non-clinical career pathways to veterans seeking employment in healthcare in Virginia.

Annually over 200,000 military service members will separate from active duty. Healthcare holds promise as a target industry with jobs for transitioning military veterans given healthcare’s high number of job openings, especially jobs requiring less than a bachelor’s degree and the projected growth in the healthcare industry. According to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs approximately 3,000 discharged military service members return annually to Wisconsin, majority to their communities of entrance.

Based on Heroes for Healthcare experience working with transitioning service members and veterans with healthcare MOS, they face difficulty with their training and experience not translating into civilian healthcare employment. Unfortunately, many are unemployed, underemployed or not working in healthcare. To address this challenge Heroes in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs proposes to develop the State of Virginia Military Medics and Corpsmen Program, which has proven to be successful.

The Webinar will include a slide with the following content:

  • Wisconsin healthcare workforce shortages, recruitment and retention challenges and Wisconsin healthcare trends.
  • Presentation outlining the Commonwealth of Virginia Military Medics and Corpsmen Program.
  • Time for questions from virtual audience.

Heroes for Healthcare mission is to be a resource for our military during their transition to civilian life to achieve gainful employment in healthcare.

This webinar was held on Monday, September 28, 2020

Speaker: Greg Stadter, MPH - Program Director, Milwaukee Health Care Partnership
While flu vaccinations are important every year, it is even more so this year to help minimize respiratory disease and lower healthcare utilization during the COVID pandemic.  In 2019, rates of flu vaccination in Milwaukee were lower than the statewide average, and significant racial disparities persist. Starting in July, the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership has facilitated a multi-sector workgroup aiming to increase Milwaukee County’s flu vaccination rate in 2020, with representation from health systems, FQHCs, local public health departments, retail and academic pharmacy, insurance and local and state government.  Please join us as Greg Stadter with the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership outlines the workgroup’s progress and strategies, and solicits feedback from MSMC members on how to increase flu vaccination rates this year.
