Medical Society of Milwaukee Physician Chosen as Wisconsin Medical Society President-Elect

MADISON – Wisconsin Medical Society members elected Barbara A. Hummel, MD, of West Allis, president-elect during the Society’s Annual Meeting at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, April 25-26.  A graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Hummel also has served as president of the Medical Society of Milwaukee County and was a member of its Board of Directors from 2003 to 2011.

A board-certified family physician, Dr. Hummel is a family physician in private practice. She is affiliated with Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center and Aurora West Allis Medical Center, where she served as chair and vice chair of the Department of Family Practice at West Allis Memorial Hospital. She been a member of the Wisconsin Medical Society’s Board of Directors since 2007 and has served as its vice chair the last two years. In addition, Dr. Hummel has served as an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA) since 2009.

On the national level, Dr. Hummel is very active in the AMA. She recently was elected to a two-year term as chair-elect of the new Senior Physicians’ Governing Council and is secretary of the Private Physicians Congress. She also has served on the AMA’s Credentials Committee and a reference committee, and as a teller to its House of Delegates.

“I’m very grateful and humbled for the support I’ve received from fellow Society members,” said Dr. Hummel upon her election. “I look forward to meeting physicians across the state and encouraging their participation in the Society’s advocacy efforts and other activities.”

In 2016, Dr. Hummel will succeed Jerry Halverson, MD, who was sworn in as the Society’s 164th president on April 25.
