Medication Drop Boxes:

Milwaukee City and County police departments, and certain Walgreens provide medication drop boxes. You do not have to give your name. 
Follow these steps:

  • Pills will only be accepted in a clear plastic bag. *Empty your unused pills from their bottles/containers into the bag.
  • Throw the empty pill bottles/containers into your trash.  
  • You do not have to take individual pills out of plastic pillow or bubble packaging.
  • Liquids, creams and non-aerosol sprays can remain in their original containers.
Free Drug Mail Back Program: Milwaukee/Cudahy

Pick up a free, tamper-proof mail back envelope at one of 10 CVS Pharmacy locations in Milwaukee and Cudahy, at MMSD’s administrative office, and in Milwaukee and Cudahy police departments. Put pills in the envelope and mail back for free.

Make Your Home Safer - Return Your Unused Medications!

Decrease the risk of: Accidental Poisonings in Kids and Suicide Attempts in Loved Ones

  • Bring or mail back your unused prescription and over the counter medications to a drug take back location near you.
  • Prescription painkillers, especially narcotics such as oxycodone and hydrocodone, have higher potential for causing death in suicide attempts and accidental poisonings. They also have a high potential for misuse, abuse, and theft.
  • Let’s all take part in drug take back day on or around April 29th! But remember, you can bring or mail back medicines any day, especially when concerned that a loved one may be thinking of suicide.
