Officers

Andrew Kastenmeier, MD - President

Dr. Kastenmeier is a General Surgeon & Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Division of General Surgery. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School in 2004. He has received numerous awards and honors and is widely published.

Michelle Graham, MD - President-elect

Michelle L. Graham, MD, MME, FAAFP, serves as the Market Medical Director for Wisconsin and Michigan for UnitedHealthcare.

Dr. Graham, a native of Iowa, graduated from the University Of Iowa College Of Medicine in 2000 and completed her community-based University of Iowa residency in Family Medicine in Sioux City, Iowa, in 2003. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. 

Dr. Graham has spoken internationally for the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Christian Medical and Dental Society.  She has taught internationally in Togo, Africa, in collaboration with the Peace Corps.  Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Graham has served as a medical missionary in Mexico and Peru, as well as leading medical mission trips to Honduras from 2003 through 2010.

Amar Ambardekar, DO - Treasurer

Amar Ambardekar, DO, is an internal medicine physician on staff at Aurora Advanced Healthcare. He received his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO, in 2007 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2010.  Dr. Ambardekar is board certified in internal medicine.  He will serve as Treasurer for the Wisconsin state chapter of the American Association of Physicians of Indian origin in 2015, and is currently a Board member at large.  He is a clinical preceptor for medical students from the Medical College of Wisconsin as well as the University of Wisconsin and also served as a Milwaukee County delegate for the Wisconsin Medical Society Annual meeting in 2014.

 

 

Brian Peterson, MD - Past President

Dr. Peterson attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and graduated in 1980. Following a rotating internship he served for two years with the USMC as a general medical officer. Military residency (anatomic and clinical pathology) and fellowship (forensic pathology) followed, with several more years of USN service. Dr. Peterson joined the staff at the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office in 2008 and was appointed chief in 2010.

Kathy Schmitz - Executive Director

Schmitz has more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive in health care, marketing communications, public relations and media relations. Most recently she served as the Chief Communications Officer/Spokesperson for Columbia St. Mary’s Health System in Milwaukee, WI, a position she advanced to during a 22-year career with the System. Prior to joining Columbia St. Mary’s Schmitz served as the Assistant Director of Public Relations at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN; Public Relations Director at the Milwaukee Ballet Company & School; and News/Public Affairs Producer at WISN-TV & WISN Radio, Milwaukee, WI. Schmitz holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Marquette University and a master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University.

Directors

Hammad Haider-Shah, MD

A hospitalist and specialist in Internal Medicine, Dr. Haider-shah received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from St. George's University, School of Medicine, Grenada, W.I. in 1999. He received his Juris Doctorate from Marquette University Law School, Milwaukee, WI, in 2006. He currently serves as Medical Director/Physician Advisor, Case Management at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center & Aurora St. Luke's South Shore Hospital.

Amanda Kong, MD

Dr. Kong is a Breast Surgical Oncologist and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Division of Surgical Oncology.  She received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Brown University, completed a general surgery residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.  While working at the Medical College of Wisconsin, she also received her Master’s Degree in Epidemiology.

Dr. Kong joined the faculty in 2008 at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she serves as the Chair of the Cancer Committee.  Her practice and research focuses on diseases of the breast and breast cancer.  She has won numerous awards and is published in multiple journals.  She is committed to mentoring students and residents and serves on several national committees. 

Don Lee, MD

Dr. Don Lee currently serves as a Hospitalist at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s. He also recently served as Medical Director Clinical Integration at Columbia St. Mary’s Health System.

Dr. Lee received his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2002 and completed his residency in internal medicine at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI in 2005. He received a MPH degree in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Lee previously served on the MSMC Board as a Director-at-Large and as Membership Chair. He currently serves as a Board Director for the Wisconsin Medical Society.

Marylyn (Lyn) Ranta, MD

Marylyn (Lyn) Ranta, MD completed her undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame and attended medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine. She moved to Milwaukee after completion of her pediatric residency program at the University of Minnesota. She practiced general pediatrics in Metro Milwaukee for 25 years before becoming the Director of Physician Affairs at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) in 2010. Her current responsibilities include oversight of credentialing and privileging, provider support services and utilization management. She also serves as co-lead of the CHW system-wide immunization initiative, is a member of the early childhood immunization network for Milwaukee Succeeds and is the vice chair for Immunize Milwaukee.

Jon Richards, JD

Jon Richards is a Milwaukee attorney who is also doing policy work for Milwaukee-based Community Advocates Public Policy Institute.   His policy work involves an initiative, which has been endorsed by the Milwaukee County Medical Society, to greatly expand the number of permanent collection sites for unused medicines.    The other policy projects he is developing include an education effort on the detrimental health effects of electronic cigarettes and a comprehensive and community-informed youth violence prevention plan for the City of Milwaukee.   Richards served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1998 to 2014, during which time he served as Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Health and Health Reform and co-chairman of the joint committee on implementing the Affordable Care Act.   His health care policy leadership has been recognized by ABC for Health, the American Cancer Society and the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Care Professionals.     Richards is a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, and the University of Wisconsin Law School.  He lives in Milwaukee with his wife, Andrea, and son Alex.

Lisa McElroy, MD

Lisa McElroy, MD, General Surgeon Resident, Medical College of Wisconsin, received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, East Lansing, MI in 2009.  In 2014, she received her Master of Science in Health Services and Outcomes Research from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL.  She currently serves as a Contributing Author, Clinical Access, and Co-Editor, Surgery Review Illustrated, McGraw Hill, New York, NY.  Dr. McElroy has 25 Peer Review Publications, authored three books and books chapters, given 37 presentations, volunteered with numerous organizations throughout the country, and been awarded nearly 10 awards, scholarships and honors. 

Madelaine Tully, MD

A native of Milwaukee, Dr. Madelaine Tully received her Medical Degree in Family Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School and her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. A family practice physician at Progressive Community Health Center, Dr. Tully has more than 10 years of experience serving Milwaukee's underserved communities. Dr. Tully proactively seeks to participate in community engaged research projects to improve the health of her patients and the community.

Rob Riepenhoff, MD

Dr. Robert L Riepenhoff is a board certified emergency physician and the current Medical Director of Emergency Services at Columbia St. Mary’s Emergency Department in Milwaukee.

A native of the Milwaukee area, Dr. Riepenhoff obtained his medical degree in 2006 from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He received his training in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago residency program where he served as chief resident. Moving back to the Milwaukee area in 2009, Dr. Riepenhoff started his career with Infinity Healthcare and Columbia St Mary’s.

Pam Wilson, MD

Dr. Pamela Wilson currently serves as Medical Director of Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers, a position she has held since 2011.  From 2008-2011 she served as Director of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine for Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers.  Dr. Wilson received her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in 1999. She completed her Family Practice Residency in 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital where she served as Chief Resident.

In 2015, Dr. Wilson received the Health Care Heroes Award from the BizTimes, and in 2014 she received the Humanitarian Award from Pastors United.

Cory Wilson, MD

Dr. Wilson is an ABEM-certified emergency physician with over 20 years of emergency medicine and urgent care practice management experience. He has been in private practice in Milwaukee with Emergency Medicine Specialists S.C. since 1993, serving as President since 2006.

Dr. Wilson is also currently serving as President of ConsensioHealth, a medical practice management and billing company. He also is Co Founder/Co Owner of Popcare+ Immediate Care Clinic in Franklin, WI.

He received his Medical Degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1989, and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency in 1993 at Northwestern University Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
