A History of the Medical Society of Milwaukee County, 1846-1996

A History of the Medical Society of Milwaukee County written as part of our Sesquicentennial celebration. This book chronicles the frontier origins of the Medical Society, the enormous contributions Milwaukee physicians made to the cultural and economic growth of Milwaukee and to the evolution of Medical Science. It was the first history of Milwaukee medicine written since 1915.

In 1997 the Milwaukee County Historical Society honored the publication's author, Earl R. Thayer, with its annual "King Gambrinus" prize. The award is presented each year to the person whom the historical society elects as "the best contributor to Milwaukee's historiography".

Mr. Thayer retired as General Secretary of the State Medical Society of Wisconsin (now the Wisconsin Medical Society) in April, 1987.
